Concerto Audition

TEL HAI MASTER CLASSES 2026

Concerto Audition - Rules and Regulations

Following a well-established tradition at Tel-Hai Master Classes, a Concerto Audition will be held in the framework of the 2026 Tel-Hai International Piano Master Classes, with the aim of choosing outstanding participants for solo performances  with orchestra in Israel.

a)  Students wishing to participate in the Audition should indicate so in the Application Form.

b) Students who have performed with an orchestra in Israel as a result of an earlier Tel Hai Concerto Audition should not enter the present one.

The Repertoire:

J.S. Bach –  all concertos
W.A. Mozart  --  all concertos
L. van Beethoven  --  all concertos
F. Chopin  --  concertos in E Minor and in F Minor
R. Schumann --  Concerto in A Minor
C. Saint-Saëns  --  Concerto in G Minor
D. Shostakovich  --  Concerto in C minor

The Audition will consist of two rounds -- preliminary and final.

For the preliminary round, each applicant will submit a video-recorded performance of the first movement of chosen concerto, with the second piano accompaniment.

The submissions – to arrive at the Masterclasses office no later than July 15th -- will be evaluated by the Masterclass faculty.

The six performers with top scores will be advanced to the Audition final round, to take place during the Master Classes.

Depending on playing quality and in agreement with the opinion by majority of evaluators, the number of Audition finalists can be slightly modified.

In the final round – with audience – each participant will perform the chosen concerto in its entirety, the orchestral part being played on the second piano by an accompanist provided by the Masterclasses.

The jury of the final round will consist of the Master Classes faculty, musical producer, representatives of orchestras, the Masterclasses Chair  and, possibly, additional musician(s) of renown, invited by the Chair.  The Artistic Directors of the Masterclass will serve as Jury chairmen.

The three highest-ranked players will be declared Audition winners and recommended for performances as full-fledged soloists with the country's orchestras.

Should any situations not covered by present Rules arise, they're to be resolved by the Masterclasses Chair and Artistic Directors.
